I feel the consensus is that when Diane left and Rebecca came onto the show it jumped the shark

TNG jumped in reverse, it’s the first two seasons (minus “The Measure of a Man”) that are unwatchable.

That may be the best example of a show as consistently well done in the last season as it was in the first. Solid writing and acting from all involved and they went out on top.

I do disagree with some earlier comments that Breaking Bad and Curb Your Enthusiasm never jumped the shark. Walt became such a prick I no longer gave a shit about him by the end. You gotta have at least a couple of likable traits to be relatable, like that sociopathic lovable murderer Tony Soprano. Also, Curb Your Enthusiasm just wasn't as funny in its most recent season. A lot of forgettable episodes, nothing as funny as, say the "Palestinian Chicken" episode from just the previous season. And that whole "Fatwa" gag wet on way too long and seemed far-fetched and unrealistic. Just my opinion:D

It was still solid in the final season, but the cracks were starting to show. Another season and I agree it probably would have gone off the rails.

Agree somewhat--Long was the superior comic actress (imo) and her chemistry with Ted Danson was off the charts. That said, how much more of the whole Sam/Diane thing could the writers wring out for laughs? Long has said that she felt she couldn't do much more with the character (much like Larry Linville decided about Frank Burns after five seasons of MASH). The Rebecca character brought new possibilities to the show.

I'll always prefer seasons 1-5 over the later ones, though.

The later years with Worf's son was tedious.
