I was sleeping, as I worked nights. My wife woke me up and turned the TV on in the bedroom. I watched for a few minutes horrified, but I actually went back to sleep, not realizing the depth of it yet.
Wife comes in later after the 1st tower fell, needless to say I stayed awake then.
Today, like every year on this day, I listened to Stern's broadcast.
I messaged Cabbie on Facebook today too, he did a great job on the radio that day. I let him know every year.

I had a buddy up visiting from Florida and was supposed to run him to the airport at around 10:30, so I went into the office for a couple hours to catch up on paperwork and make sure the new owner saw me before I went out on my sales calls. We had a home theater demo room with a projector and big screen and as soon as word came about the first plane hitting the tower, we put it on and gathered to watch. At first, I was thinking it was just a small plane that somehow fucked up. Upon closer viewing and realizing that it was a jetliner, it had all of our attention. I think we saw the second plane hit on live TV, or certainly very close to live. From that point forward, the events of the day had my full attention. I drove back to my house and my buddy and brother were watching it unfold. “I guess I’m not leaving today” were the first words out of his mouth. I ended up driving him home to Florida a few days later while the airports remained closed.

Driving south on HWY 141 past the Atlanta athletic club, radio on 99x, plane hits and they thought it was an accident. Pull into quick trip , second plane hits and a pall fell over the radio.

A very surreal day, still have the Atlanta journal/constitution and USA Today from 9/12/2001 in my old briefcase

    Never forget

Things have changed so much in 18 years ......

I was about to strike a jury for a civil trial in federal court. It was my first trial. The judge came in and said a plane crashed into twin towers and trial was continued. We were like :wtf:

Went home and learned of the other attacks. My first born was 2 years old and her mom was freaking out. She was afraid charleston wv might be attacked due to all the chemical plant here

I had a factory rep from Australia in town. I took him to a spot where we could see the towers across the bay and the guy got so shook up he rented a car and drove to Mexico in order to get a flight home.

To be fair, he did have an appointment in Texas later that week.

I was in Truro, Nova Scotia installing pex pipe for in-ground heating in a new senior's complex being built. There were only a few of us working with no radios or anything giving us news. I never even heard anything had happened until about noon Atlantic time while having lunch, and saw no video until about 7pm back at the hotel until I turned on the TV and saw replayed video of the second plane hitting the tower.

On my way to work and see this airplane crash into a building. I said "Fuck That" and went back home to bed. Glad I am a late morning person. Getting up early is for the terrorists.

Was asleep at first and remember my wife saying something about a plane hitting one of the towers and, like others, thought it was just an accident. Got up and figure out it was more than that but headed into work anyway. Was walking up to our building in the financial district and started seeinging people from the office and realized the building had been shut down.

For some reason one of the things I really remember is a dude asking me for a smoke and i shined him on and then stopped him as he was walking off and gave him one. I wasn't into handing out cigarettes but given the circumstances.....

Eventually realized we weren't working and someone told me the bay bridge might be shut down snd hi-tailed it back to my bike and was one of the last people across before they closed it. Remember being the only vehicle on the bridge and teams of of National Guard folk interspersed at points on the way with lots guns.

Ended up crying on my stoop out of the blue a couple times that week.
