We go to Vegas at least once a year.

We usually stay downtown at the Golden Nugget and hang at the pool all day and drink, then we go eat somewhere nice and then go to try and find a band playing somewhere.

Usually there are a few bands playing out on Fremont street so we'll hit those up and then head inside to a lounge and watch whatever band is playing and drink and dance and party.

We rarely gamble but sometimes we'll get the urge and play some craps or blackjack.

I'll sometimes throw some money on a few sports games that are playing that day, just for the fuck of it.

I only went once but I didn't find it particularly expensive. Nothing compared to NYC.

The original OP question is rather open ended. Unless you have some destination to go to in Vegas (i.e. A show, a convention, a seminar, etc.) I wouldn't go to Vegas. If you have a bunch of cash and want to throw it away then go. Or just take the cash and burn it. Same result. If you have never been to Vegas you should go at least once to see what all the hub-bub is about. If you are on the main strip, it isn't cheap by any means. So yes, go to Vegas, who really gives a shit one way or another.

I was a craps dealer at Wynn from 05 to 08 and was at the golden nugget before that. Left it to become a teacher.

Anyways I love living here and would absolutely recommend visiting. All the typical Vegasy stuff can be found on the strip as many have mentioned. If you want to experience something different head out to Hoover Damn and have lunch or dinner in Boulder City after.

You can shoot pretty much any gun and blow shit up in the desert if you pay enough at Boulder City Gun Club.

Red rock is also good if you're like hiking although I wouldn't recommend for the summer.

There's also a racetrack where you can rent high end cars like Ferrari's and Lambos. Never done it but looks cool.

Finally, if you come here you must absolutely 100% slip a 20 between your credit card and ID when you check into your hotel. Ask the agent if there are "any complimentary upgrades that might make my stay more comfortable?" I always get a free room upgrade or buffet coupons when I staycation here. If they cant do anything they will slide the 20 back and let you know they dont have anything.

Disagree. If you have nothing to do just walking down the strip at night is fun something always pops up whether it’s a free limo to a strip club or $1 beers and maragaritas at Casino Royale

    Absolutely yes.

Been at least once a year for last 30 years. Lot has changed. Everyone has their opinions, but I still think it's a great value, even on the strip. If you do it right, you will stay in a hotel room for $200 that would be $2,000 in London, NY or San Francisco.

I'm not a big gambler... maybe $500 per trip. Love to wager on NFL and college football and always try to take a trip once a year in the fall. It's insane if you are a sports fan. That is the "boys" trip and we drink and gamble and eat great food and stare at young girls for 72 hours.

Spring is with the wife and another couple. Spa, restaurants, shows. Just relaxing.

Haven't been downtown in 10 years - it's nasty. Haven't walked the strip in 10 years. So crowded with tourists, kids, drunks, hustlers. Monday thru Thursday is the worst...cheaper to stay and you get lots of riff-raff. Cabs are cheap. Some of the bigger places, you never have to leave.

Seems the Brits get sold on tour packages for Luxor, Circus, etc. I would avoid... although I went to a wedding at Luxor last year and the groom's suite was totally re-done and spectacular at the top of the pyramid. Looked really cool. But there is a reason some of those places are so cheap. If you're coming all the way over, spend a few extra bucks and stay somewhere nice like Bellagio, Wynn, Cosmo, etc. Mandalay is really nice...just a really good walk from center strip. Delano is all suite for not much more than some of the other nice hotels. Living area, bedroom with a door... 1.5 baths. My wife snores like crazy so I like going to the couch and closing the door.

Best trip was taking my daughter and her friends when she turned 21 - lots of fun and they really had a blast. Fun to see thru their eyes.

Bachelor party for a friend 20 years ago turned out to be a dud - too many people with different opinions and going 10 different ways. I got shorted about $300 when all was said and done.

Ask away if you need any other advice.

I've tried that trick probably $20 times and gotten nowhere with it. Not even once. For whatever reason.

I agree. We don't gamble at all, and I walk away from a long Vegas weekend for less out of pocket than many other vacations we go on.
